Care Instructions for Original Art
Care Instructions — Original Watercolour Paintings | Pen-and-Wash
Your artwork is painted on paper with water-soluble pigments and ink — beautiful, but delicate. Here's how to keep it looking its best:
📄 Unframed Works
Handle gently — hold by edges or support fully underneath. Please try not to touch the painted surface at all; even clean fingers can leave marks or lift pigment.
Store flat in a cool, dry place (normal living room conditions are perfect — approx. 18–21°C, 40–50% humidity). Avoid damp cupboards, attics, kitchens or steamy areas.
Keep out of direct sunlight — watercolours fade surprisingly quickly. If displaying unframed, enjoy it for short periods only.
Dust lightly with a very soft, clean brush. Please don't use water, wipes or cleaning products — they can ruin the art.
Pen-and-wash note: Many inks remain water-soluble even when dry — please keep well away from moisture, steam and spills!
🖼️ Framed Works
Hang away from direct sunlight — UV light is the biggest cause of fading. For long life, use UV-filtering glass and ample matting so the artwork never touches the glazing (contact + moisture = permanent damage).
Avoid bathrooms, kitchens, or above radiators and fireplaces — heat and humidity harm paper and pigments over time.
Clean only the glass — spray cleaner onto a cloth, never directly onto the frame. Please don't try to clean the artwork itself.
Store framed pieces upright; wrap in paper or cotton — please avoid plastic wrap long-term, as it traps moisture.
In Short
Keep it out of strong sun, away from damp and heat, and handle the surface as little as possible. Treat it with that gentle care and it will stay bright for generations to enjoy.
